Growing With Purpose
How Ishami RK Ltd Is Building a Fossil Fuel Free Future
Over the past few years, Ishami RK Ltd has been building more than hospitality brands. As the holding company of Villa Kigali, The Rock Bistro, Taste by Villa Kigali, Spa by Villa Kigali and Rupari Farm, the mission has slowly evolved into something deeper.
It is not only about hosting guests, serving food, or creating beautiful spaces. It is about responsibility. It is about building a system that respects the land, reduces waste, and moves steadily toward becoming fossil fuel free.
The Beginning of the Cycle
Rupari Farm in Ngoma at the Lake Mugesera
Rupari Farm in Ngoma, where sustainability begins along the shores of Lake Mugesera.
In Ngoma, near Lake Mugesera, Rupari Farm stands at the center of this vision. This is where the cycle starts.
All biodegradable waste from Villa Kigali, The Rock Bistro, Taste by Villa Kigali, and Spa by Villa Kigali is carefully collected and transported to the farm. Instead of being discarded, it is decomposed and transformed into organic manure.
What used to be waste becomes nourishment for the soil.
That soil supports the growth of coffee, pumpkins, and other crops that continue to expand season after season. This closed loop system reduces environmental impact while strengthening agricultural productivity.
It is a quiet but powerful shift.
From Greenhouse to Plate
Hydroponic farming at Rupari Farm supplying fresh produce directly to the restaurants.
Inside two greenhouses, hydroponic farming is thriving. Lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, and chili are grown in controlled environments that use less water and produce consistent, high quality crops.
The Rock Bistro and Taste by Villa Kigali serve this fresh produce daily. Guests may not see the greenhouses, but they taste the difference in every dish.
The goal is self-sufficiency.
Farm-to-table here is not a concept for marketing. It is an operational system. The farm feeds the restaurants. The restaurants support the farm.
Energy That Powers the Vision
120 solar panels are generating clean energy and reducing dependence on the grid.
Sustainability extends beyond food production. Ishami RK Ltd has installed more than 25 solar panels, generating enough electricity to operate off the grid during the day.
This reduces electricity costs while significantly lowering reliance on non renewable energy sources.
The kitchens across the group already operate using electricity only. No gas is used for cooking. This is a deliberate decision aligned with the long-term goal of eliminating fossil fuel dependency.
The Road Ahead
The next phase of this journey includes transitioning all company-owned vehicles to electric. The intention is clear. Every part of operations must reflect the same commitment to sustainability.
This transformation is gradual, intentional, and structured.
A System Built With Intention
What Ishami RK Ltd is building is not a short-term campaign. It is a long-term structure. A circular model where waste feeds the soil, the soil feeds the restaurants, and solar energy powers the process in between.
From Ngoma to Kigali, from greenhouse to plate, from sunlight to socket, the company is shaping a model of hospitality that is rooted in stewardship.
Becoming fossil fuel free is not a slogan. It is a direction. And every step taken brings that vision closer to reality.
